Sheet A-00  ·  About the Studio

People before projects. Process before promises.

Halvard & Wren is a small, architect-led studio. We keep our roster short on purpose — every commission gets the same principals from first sketch to final walkthrough.

Story
Sheet A-00.1
Since 2009

Halvard & Wren started as a two-person drafting table above a hardware store, taking on the commissions larger firms considered too small to matter. Seventeen years later the table is bigger, but the instinct hasn't changed: every house still starts as a conversation about the site, not a catalogue of finishes.

We're a design-build studio, which means the people who draw your home are the same people who walk it with the builder every week until it's finished. Nothing gets handed off, translated, or reinterpreted along the way — the plans you approve are the house you get.

We take on a small number of projects a year, by choice. It's the only way we know to give a house the attention a good building actually needs.

What Doesn't Change

Three things we won't compromise on.

01

One team, whole project

The architect who designs your home is the architect who signs off on it at the end. No hand-offs between design and construction phases.

02

Drawings before decisions

Every material, budget, and schedule conversation happens against a fully resolved drawing set — never a sketch or an assumption.

03

A small number of projects

We limit our yearly commissions so principals stay personally involved in every one, from site visit to final walkthrough.
